Matching the power of the air conditioner to the house

Air conditioning in the house and apartment is installed primarily to cool it, so the most important parameter that you should pay attention to when looking for the right device is its cooling capacity (power).

To calculate the necessary cooling capacity of the air conditioner, special computer programs are used to determine it with high precision. A specialized dealer will certainly have one of them at his disposal and using it, he will choose the device that suits our needs. If we want to make a choice ourselves, and the room to be cooled is typical (2.5-2.8 m high and there are no devices generating particularly high heat gains), we can assume that 1 m2 requires power 0.1 kW.

This means that, for example, for a room of 20 m2, an air conditioner with a cooling capacity of 2 kW is suitable. To facilitate the selection, manufacturers usually indicate how large a room a given model is suitable for. If it is not closed, the calculation of the air-conditioner power should be based on the sum of the areas of all rooms between which the air flows freely.

The air conditioner should dry the air and remove the condensation
The operation of the air conditioner affects not only the air temperature, but also its humidity. At the same time, cooling causes its dehumidification, which under certain conditions (for example during a thunderstorm when it is stuffy) has a positive effect on the well-being of people staying in an air-conditioned room. As a result, water vapor condenses on the surface of the evaporator from the air.

The condensate must be removed in some way. Some air conditioners (usually portable) have tanks that need to be manually emptied periodically for this purpose, but most units require a drainage system. It is made of plastic pipes with a diameter of about 1.5 cm - it can be led out through the outer wall and ended in a place where dripping water does not interfere, or it can be connected to a sewage system.

The impact of home air conditioning on health - some air conditioners will even take care of your skin Staying in a stream of cold air for a long time increases the risk of infection and may cause eye or skin irritation. However, when using an air conditioner, you can avoid this - just think carefully about the place of installation.

The air stream should not be aimed directly at people. Before it reaches them, it should mix with the warmer air in the room. This is helped by special movable wheels, which most air conditioners have.

The health impact of air conditioner operation can be positive because each device has a filter that filters out pollutants in the air. If someone wants to clean it particularly effectively, he should choose a device with a HEPA filter that captures dust, pollen, mites, fungi and mold spores, some bacteria and viruses. Filters with silver atoms have strong bactericidal and fungicidal properties. There are also those that release vitamin C into the air, which is considered a factor in firming the skin and preventing it from sagging.

When looking for an air conditioner, it is worth paying attention to whether its filter can be cleaned or requires frequent replacement, which of course will increase the cost of operation. The frequency of cleaning and replacement depends on the type of filter - the finer dirt it retains, the faster it gets dirty. The standard filter usually only needs cleaning once a year. There are air-conditioning disinfectants available in stores - they remove fungi whose presence is evidenced by an unpleasant smell.

It is best to call a service technician once a year, who will perform a professional inspection of the air conditioner - he will check the correct operation of all components, clean and disinfect its interior.
